Gym Warriors, St Columbas Style
Following the successes of Gym Warriors Gala Days across the Perth Metro area, our Gym Warriors team have piloted an extended program at St Columba's School with the pre-primary students enjoying a 10-week program covering fundamental movement skills in a fun, engaging Gym Warrior way! The students have thoroughly enjoyed the program and have been pushing the boundaries of their skills whilst having a fantastic time. Gymnastics WA are thankful for the support of Healthway through their Go for 2&5 initiative, which enabled us to provide Gym Warrior programs and further embed the value of an active and healthy lifestyle into young Western Australians.
Gym Warriors is an exciting participation initiative designed to engage a wide range of participants through the use of non-traditional movement based activities. Using fundamental gymnastics skills coupled with a more freestyle type of movement provides appeal to a wider range of participants and encourages engagement with gymnastics at the grassroots level.
Gym Warriors is easily adapted to suit a variety of environments and is highly portable, making it ideal for regional and remote locations. The obstacle course style of activities appeals to participants of all genders and allows for the use of limited equipment as well as the inclusion of equipment in the environment in which the program is being undertaken.
Gym Warriors directly links to the outcomes of the Australian Physical Literacy Framework and to the Western Australian Health and Physical Education curriculum, making it fit for purpose in Western Australian primary schools.
