The Gymnastics WA Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Desiree Jones as the incoming President of Gymnastics WA. Ms Jones brings to the position over thirty years of experience in the sport of gymnastics and has been an active member of the Gymnastics WA Board for over three years.Desiree’s professional background is as Lecturer, Tutor and Researcher in Marketing and E-Commence.
Desiree has been involved with gymnastics for substantial length of time and has been involved within the sport as an Administrator, Coach, Presenter, Committee Member, Technical Director, Judge. In 2013, Desiree was also awarded a Life Membership for her contribution to the sport.
Desiree has been involved in sport from a young age, competing at both a State and National Level, but gymnastics became her true passion. Residing in Perth for most of her life, and having an initial background in Human Movement and Anatomy/Human Biology, Desiree gained a Commerce Degree at Curtin University (Marketing/E-Commerce). She has worked in a variety of roles including University Lecturing/Tutoring, Sports Consulting, Gymnastics Coaching and Administration.
From 2008 to 2017, Desiree was a member of the Gymnastics Australia WAG Commission assisting in the development of WAG educational courses, Levels curriculum and manuals, strategic planning for the sport in addition to national event implementation.
Coaching since a young age, Desiree had great success particularly as a Level 7-10 Coach with numerous National Champions and National medallists. Desiree then turned her passion towards judging and qualified as the first WA International judge in 1996. Desiree has represented Australia judging at many high-profile international events including World Championships and Commonwealth Games.
Gymnastics WA is also pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Marshman as the new Vice President of Gymnastics WA. Sarah has a legal background and was a former Rhythmic athlete and member of the Rhythmic Gymnastics Technical Committee. Sarah was appointed to the Gymnastics WA Board in November 2018.
Desiree transitions from her previous role as Vice President to Gymnastics WA President and Sarah to Vice President on 01 July 2019.
