The World Gymnaestrada is a world-wide, non-competitive FIG Gymnastics for All event held every 4 years, attracting the largest number of active participants of any FIG event. Participation is for everybody, regardless of gender, age, race, religion, culture, ability or social standing. The event is organised by a FIG Member Federation, in collaboration with a city and awarded by the FIG Council as stated in the Statutes.
Swan Districts Gymnastics Club has successfully been selected to attend the 2019 World Gymnaestrada, which will take plan in Vorarlberg, Austria from the 7th – 13th July. Swan Districts will be joining together with the Harlequin Spirals from South Australia. There will be a total of 12 Swan Districts gymnasts travelling to Austria, to be part of such a huge celebration of gymnastics.
The World Gymnaestrada is more than a gymnastics festival. It is a meeting of more than 20,000 participants from more than 50 nations, who with mutual understanding inspire each other into motion. Their show programmes are of the highest standard even though they are not evaluated. For gymnasts of all age groups and different branches of gymnastics the Gymnaestrada is a coming together in friendship and culture.
The World Gymnaestrada motivates and activates people to movement and forms a central basis for gymnastics and its further development and the World Gymnaestrada is likewise an important springboard. The international participants convey the enthusiasm for gymnastics throughout the world and communicate this with other gymnasts worldwide via social media. Behind every Gymnaestrada participant is ultimately a little lobbyist for gymnastics.
If you are interested in joining the travelling team, please contact Debbie at Swan Districts – 9274 8805. Please note, it is not necessary for you to be a registered athlete with Swan Districts and will not be required to transfer clubs. Gymnasts will however need to be registered as athletes in a Gymnastics WA affiliated club.
