Kid's just want to have fun

It’s been a busy month for Gymnastics WA’s Participation projects with the Go for 2&5 Interschool Challenge and Athlete Training Camp taking place recently at the State Gymnastics Centre. Here’s how all the fun happened:

Go for 2&5 Interschool Challenge

The Interschool Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) competition drew 124 students across four divisions from six different schools. St Patrick’s from Katanning even travelled 300km to be there. The competition ran over two days with many athletes enjoying competing with their friends and representing their school. The Stations Challenge took place after and was an opportunity for 21 younger students to participate in a fast-paced session of fundamental LaunchPad activities helped by SEDA students.

Thank you to all of the school staff, judges, volunteers and School Sport WA for being involved.

Schools involved: Carmel School, Harrisdale PS,  Lake Monger PS, South Coast Baptist College, St Mary’s, St Patrick’s Katanning, Warnbro PS.

Go for 2&5 Athlete Training Camp

94 Women’s and Men’s Recreational to Level 6 gymnasts from across WA descended on the State Gymnastics Centre for an action packed two days of learning during the July school holidays.

The athletes loved being able to hone their skills with advanced coaches and meeting 2010 World Champion and Olympian, Lauren Mitchell plus ex-Men’s NCE gymnast Joshua Di Nucci.

The camp was capped off with a Come n’ Try clinic for 3-10 year olds which attracted 100 registrations prior to the day. Many children were participating in gymnastics for the first time, giving them a great first experience in the sport before hopefully joining a local club.

Thank you to our coaches, guest speakers and Communicare volunteers who added to what was a fantastic opportunity for the athletes.
