On May 29th- 2nd June I attended the
WAG Team Future Camp at the AIS in Canberra.
This was my first time attending a camp, and what a great
experience I had.
Master coaches present at the camp included Mihai Brestyan-
new WAG National Coach, Peggy Liddick, Joshua Fabian and Dhana Antulov. I learnt a lot from these coaches, and certainly asked a lot of questions!
Each day varied, with their being either 1 or 2 training
sessions each day. On the shorter training days we had other activities such as
recovery, lectures for the gymnasts, and psychology lectures for the coaches. Most
days started with a 7:00am breakfast, which included a very cold (-5
degrees) walk from the accommodation to the dining hall. Each training session
comprised of dance, trampoline, vault, tumbling, beam and bars. Our gymnasts
worked hard on developing their beam series and dismounts, as well as their
tumbling skills. We managed to get an opportunity to play in the bungee, which
was exciting as we do not have one at Northern Districts Gymnastic Club.
I was incredibly lucky to be able to have a Q & A
session with new national coach, Mihai, to find out about the plans he has for
Australian Gymnastics in the future. All I can say is wow! There are going to
be some tough expectations, and the gymnastics community need to work together
to achieve his (and our) goals. Mihai was very passionate talking about this,
and I am excited to see what he has in store.
I have been so inspired by this opportunity to attend the
Team Future Camp, and cannot thank Gymnastics Western Australia enough for the
High-Performance Grant, enabling me to attend this event. I am looking forward
to developing the skills of our International Levels gymnasts to come back
bigger and better in 2018!
