A Great Professional Development Opportunity through GWA’s High Performance Grant Scheme
Over the weekend of 26th and 27th of November 2016, Elliot Stratton travelled to Sydney Gymnastics and Aquatic Center in Rooty Hill, Sydney, for the New South Wales 2016 Senior Gym sports Clinic, where he attending the clinic for Trampoline Gymsports.
Leading the clinic was the 2012 USA Olympic Coach, Tatiana Kovaleva. Originally from Russia, Tatiana was an Individual World Champion herself for Trampoline in 1996 as well as part of the Russian team to win the team events in 1996, 1998 and 1999.
During the 2-day clinic, there were four practical training sessions, which Tatiana led. Athletes jumping in these sessions were from the NSW High Performance Trampoline Squad. This squad includes athletes whom have made finals at Senior World Championship level and also medalled in World Cup Events.
These practical sessions provided Elliot with a fantastic opportunity to watch some of Australia’s, and the worlds, best athletes in training. It was also a great opportunity to listen to the technical feedback given by Tatiana and also their personal coaches, which included Australian National Coach Brett Austine.
In between Trampoline Training Sessions there were educational opportunities. These included:
- Planning for Long Term Athlete Development
- Pool Recovery
- Question and answer session with Tatiana
- Strength and Conditioning
As a coach working with some up and coming talented athletes, Elliot is always trying to find ways to improve his program and fully develop his athletes, and this educational opportunity helped plant some seeds in his mind for new and exciting ways to do this!
Since returning from the clinic, Elliot says
“I feel rejuvenated in my coaching and excited and passionate about pushing on continuing to increase WA’s level of performance for Trampoline, and I can see how we can step up once again in 2017 and really challenge NSW and the other eastern states at the top end of our sport in Australia.
I would like to thank GWA for their financial support for this clinic, without which I do not know if it would have been possible for me to attend! “
